Hello and welcome to the Local Governing Body section of our school website. My name is Nigel Spencer and I am the Chair of Governors for Evelyn Street Primary School.
On the following pages you will get the opportunity to learn a bit more about the Local Governing Body, who we are, how we’re structured and what we do.
The Local Governing Body, in conjunction with the Principal, is responsible for the strategic planning within the school, agreeing policy and procedures with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement and pastoral care.
Members of the Board have a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience with each governor bringing something vital to the team. With this experience, our responsibility is to set the goals and strategy for the school. Specific duties include setting staffing levels, agreeing the school budget, ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered as well as monitoring health and safety of pupils, staff and visitors, together with the management of the school premises.
The Local Governing Body is made up of parent governors, elected by the parents of pupils at the school, staff governors including the Principal, Local Authority appointed Governors and Community Governors. The team consists of a variety of people from different backgrounds, who all share the passionate belief that Evelyn Street should be a happy, successful, school where every child matters.
Governors at Evelyn Street Primary School meet to discuss all issues, there are no discrete committees. Governors meet twice a term as a full Governing Body to discuss standards and resources.
Minutes from Evelyn Street Local Governing Body meetings are available upon request through the school.
Chair of Governors
Originally from Lymm, I now live in Westbrook with my Fiancée Caroline who I met at primary school when I was 9 years old. I own and operate EDAC Solutions, an ICT service company specializing in looking after the IT needs of Primary Schools in Warrington and surrounding areas since its inception in 1998. I am 46 years old and have 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls and one Granddaughter, Lucy who has just started school in Derby. I have an unusual hobby, namely keeping dangerous wild animals including an Asiatic Crocodile, several Cobras, Mambas, Vipers and the world’s most venomous snake the Australian Taipan. I regularly work with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine providing snake venom for research into anti-venom treatments for developing countries in Africa.
Staff Headteacher Governor
My name is Jennifer Hindley and I am the Headteacher of the school and a member of the governing body. I work as a Local Leader of Education (LLE), am a Pupil Premium Reviewer and moderate at both Key Stages 1 and 2 for Warrington Local Authority. I have worked in a number of different schools across Warrington in a variety of different teaching posts and leadership positions. I have been a teacher for 15 years, and Headteacher for 5 years. I am married and have 2 grown up children. I worked at Evelyn Street during two different periods as Deputy Headteacher, Acting Headteacher and now as Headteacher and have been part of its journey to the outstanding school it is today, with its strong leadership and world class teaching provision and inspirational staff. As a Governor I feel that our schools purpose is to support our parents to educate their children and equip them for their next stage of life. We believe that it takes a community to raise a child.
Link Governor for - Curriculum
My Name is Katherine Whitehouse and I am a parent governor at your school. My son attended Evelyn Street Primary school from Nursery all the way through to Year 6. He has enjoyed his time at Evelyn street and he has done exceptionally well in his SATs thanks to all the hard work and patience from the staff. I am a Deputy Principal at a primary school in Knowsley so I have a keen interest in what goes on at Evelyn Street Primary School. We live locally and have interests in the local community which include our local church, football club and rugby. I feel that Evelyn Street Primary School is a place you should be proud of with exceptional staff providing a quality education that really prepares our children well for the next stage in their education.
My name is Claire and I am 28 years old. I was born and currently live in Liverpool with my family. I am a Co-opted Governor here at Evelyn Street Primary School along with another Primary School within the Warrington Primary Academy Trust. I am approaching my 7th year as a Primary School Teacher and have had the pleasure of teaching every year group within Primary and Early Years Education. Having taught in a Primary School in Warrington for four years, I now teach Year 6 in a Halton Primary School where I also lead Physical Education, Religious Education, the Relationships Curriculum and PSHE. I am very passionate about my career and have achieved the following qualifications in Higher Education; a First Class BA (Hons) degree in Early Years Professional Practice and Leadership, the Early Years Teacher Status, the Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Education, the Master Middle Leadership Qualification, a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership and the Chartered Management Institute Award in Strategic Leadership. Evelyn Street is a fantastic place to be and I am very excited for my time as a governor here, where we can work together to make a difference to the lives of the children.
My name is Joshua Rowlands. I was born in West Sussex in 1996, before moving to Cheshire at the age of four. After attending primary and secondary schools in Holmes Chapel, I studied Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh between 2015-2020 and graduated with a master’s degree. I currently live in Glasgow with my partner who I met at university. Since September 2020, I have worked as an engineer at BP, with a variety of responsibilities: ensuring the mechanical integrity of equipment, carrying out reliability assessments, and engaging with vendors to ensure our operations are as safe as possible. My biggest passion is motorsport, namely Formula 1, NASCAR and British Touring Cars. I never miss a race! I am also an avid reader and can often be found with my head buried in either a history or science fiction book. As someone who has recently left full-time education, I am acutely aware of the importance of a high-quality learning environment for students. I hope to use my time at WPAT to learn about governance and meaningfully contribute to the education of the children at Evelyn Street Primary School.
My name is Juliet Brown and have over 25 years’ experience working in the Education Sector. My particular skillset lies in Primary Education. I have been a highly successful Primary Principal, led two schools in the role as Executive Principal and I am also an accredited Local Leader in Education, Pupil Premium reviewer and most recently a SEND reviewer. My current role is Lead Primary Principal of the Wade Deacon Trust, where in my role I set the overall direction for the Primary Academies, securing educational success through effective strategic planning, high quality leadership, coaching, governance and by developing collaboration across the academies to ensure they continue to improve. My particular passion is Governance. I have just completed a term of office as Chair of Governors of a large primary school in Knowsley and prior to that I was the Vice Chair of Governors of a secondary Academy. In my role as Governor at Evelyn Street, I believe I can use my experience to support the school to continue to flourish and in addition, be part of an environment where every child receives a first class education.
