The Early Years Foundation StageIn Reception we use the ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’ for planning and assessment which is followed by all early years settings. During the year, children will be working to meet the Early Learning Goals across the seven areas of learning. These seven areas are as follows:

Play and exploration is a fundamental component to our Reception classes. Children are able to select activities where they can engage with other children, adults or independently. During these activities, children learn through first-hand experiences by actively ‘doing’ as well as through scaffolding and modelling by adults. We have a wide variety of planned and prepared activities by the Reception team as well as allowing time for the children to initiate their own learning. Activities will be planned through 'In the Moment Planning' which is focussed on children's current interests, as well as taking into account their learning styles and stages of development. More information on 'In the Moment Planning' can be found here. We have an outstanding outdoor area where Reception children have constant access to throughout the day. Children are encouraged to develop their self-confidence, resilience and independent towards learning throughout the school year. We have hens in outdoor area, Margaret, Rosie and Harriet. Children care for the hens whilst carrying out a range of daily tasks to look after their basic needs. On Fridays, during our Reception assembly, two children are awarded a box of free range eggs from our happy hens for their 'egg-cellent' learning!
We believe in having a good partnership with parents and carers. Together we can help your child to become a happy and successful learner!
