Mrs E. Stott
Our Year 2 team consists of Mrs Stott, Miss Baker and Mrs Connolly. We are looking forward to getting to know you and working together so that we have a very exciting and productive year. Year 2 is a very busy year so we hope they you learn lots of new things!
Year 2 builds on year 1. At the end of year 2 your child will sit their Standard Assessment Tests; these are based on the year two maths and reading curriculums. These will be completed in a way that the children will not realise they are doing tests and are not mentioned to the children throughout the year. They will access questions similar to those in the SATs regularly so they are familiar with them and are part of everyday teaching and learning. Please do not hesitate to come and see me after school if you have any questions or queries.
Your child has been given a reading book and planner. Please ensure you read frequently with your child, reading and discussing the text at least four times a week. We really hope that you will help us to improve reading by supporting your child at home. Reading books will be changed twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Children should bring books and planners everyday so we can see who has read to move them through our reading rainbow incentive. Also we need them to record messages or if we want to read with your child. Children will also read with a teacher during weekly Guided Reading sessions.
Please ensure that you make a note in your child’s planner to show that you have read with your child. There are a number of information and permission pages within the planner. Please ensure that you read through all pages within the first few weeks of school and sign all the relevant sections.
Homework will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned to school on a Thursday. There will be one piece of Maths and one piece of English work to complete and spellings to learn. We will have a weekly spelling test every Thursday. Spellings can be learnt in any way your child learns best, make it fun! Write in chalk, use paint or paintbrushes and water, write in sand, use different coloured pens etc.
Children will be offered a piece of fruit on a daily basis. There is also the option to purchase a snack from school which consists of toast and juice. Snack is £2.50 per week, or 50p per day. This must be paid using our cashless system ParentPay. If you would like further information about ParentPay please contact the office. If you would like to provide your child with a healthy snack from home please be reminded that we are a NUT FREE school. Anything that contains nuts will be handed back at the end of the day and your child will be offered a piece of fruit instead.
