Miss K. Leedam
Our team consists of Miss Leedam and Mrs Burrows. We are looking forward to getting to know you and working together so that we have a very exciting and productive year. We hope that you enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 1/2 has to offer! We thank you for your continued support.
Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to year 1 and from year 1 to year 2. The KS1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in the previous years and so learning through play experiences and active learning will still be part of our everyday routine. You can help your children by encouraging them to practise their handwriting at home, as well as practising spelling of the KS1 common exception words. It is also important to keep practising number bonds to ten and twenty as these are the key foundations to many mathematical concepts.
Your child has been given a reading book and planner. Please ensure you read frequently with your child, reading and discussing the text at least three times a week. Sometimes we will send more than one book home at a time. We really hope that you will help us to improve reading by supporting your child at home. Books will be changed every Thursday but we recommend that your child has their books and planners in their book bags every day.In school your child will read daily in either phonics or spelling sessions, as well as reading to an adult weekly in our guided reading sessions.
Please ensure that you make a note in your child’s planner to show that you have read with your child - they will receive vivos for this! There are a number of information and permission pages within the planner. Please ensure that you read through all pages within the first few weeks of school and sign all the relevant sections.
Homework will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned to school on a Wednesday. There will be one piece of Maths and one piece of English work to complete and spellings to learn. We will have a weekly spelling test every Friday.
Children will be offered a piece of fruit on a daily basis. There is also the option to purchase a snack from school which consists of toast and juice. Snack is £2.50 per week, or 50p per day. This must be paid using our cashless system ParentPay. If you would like further information about ParentPay please contact the office. If you would like to provide your child with a healthy snack from home please be reminded that we are a NUT FREE school. Anything that contains nuts will be handed back at the end of the day and your child will be offered a piece of fruit instead.
