KS1 is the first stage of your child's education here at Evelyn Street. It's all about laying the foundations which help children get the best out of their time at school.
The school's phonic programme is Read Write Inc. This is delivered to children in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 and to children in key stage 2 who require a catch up programme in phonics.
A range of book banded texts are used in key stage 1. These include books from the following schemes: PM, Rigby Star, Big Cat and Alpha Kids. Children are encouraged to read texts which enable them to apply their phonic skills alongside reading for meaning and pleasure.
In year two, pupils aged 7 will take SATs, usually in the form of assessments in class, which help us to better understand your child's education needs as they move up to KS2.
